Sepand Danesh, born in 1984 in Tehran, Iran, is an artist currently based in Paris, France. To truly understand his paintings, one must explore multiple layers of interpretation. On the first level, a familiar character is presented, drawing inspiration from the legacies of philosophers, artists, and intellectuals within his cultural framework. As we delve deeper, a semiotic process emerges where the cube becomes the fundamental unit of meaning in his visual language. Beyond the initial representation, the character remains in a state of latent contradiction, disconnected from its context. This disconnection leads us to a third level, where our subjective experience takes precedence; unable to decipher the portrait without context, we search for meaning within our own experiences. Thus, interacting with Danesh's work becomes a deeply personal and subjective experience. Though his paintings are stable in form, they rely heavily on our interpretation, resonating more with our mental states than with any objective reality.
