Viewed in sequence, the large-format paintings of this new series appear as an alternative musical notation system that uses chromatic and geometric iterations to represent changes in intensity, melody, and rhythm. Each one represents a fixed moment in the constant restructuring process that a mysterious modular object undergoes. Cisco conceives of this object as a “hyperlith”, a kind of fantastic megalith created by his delirious imagination. This living totem - which changes shape, color, and context in a fluid and random way - could represent an oracle, a sacred marker, or a cosmic effigy of his own personal pantheon. For him, capturing isolated instants of the chain of structural mutations that continuously transform his imaginary hyperlith on canvas is a means of exploring sculpture through the two-dimensionality of painting. The small paintings in the series represent details or close-ups of some of the larger paintings, and offer simpler, more intimate, and abstract views of the surfaces and compositions of the hyperlith. As in many of his previous works, certain combinations of color and form denote volume, perspective, and depth; but on this occasion, the division of each background into two slightly different tones suggests a horizon, a simple gesture that generates a subtle sense of amplified spatiality. Thus, Cisco creates particular atmospheres and scenarios for each individual permutation that combines the moving and mystical “hiperlítico". - Jonathan Harker
