National Painting Contest – Loom Edition (2008), among others. About the artist’s oeuvre, Mariano Querol tells say: “When viewing Salazar’s paintings, no one can remain indifferent: their visual impact is forceful, and even a viewer not well-versed in painting will be shaken from his apathy by the artist’s work, which is filled with stimuli of all kinds, offering untold symbolism and indescribable, complex, and significant contradictions—between daydreams and reality, desire and frustration, longing and failure. Each individual spectator may feel all sorts of different emotions, ranging from tenderness to fear, confusion to surprise, rejection or enjoyment; in short, a whole melody: raucous, sweet, painful, filled with inebriating contradictions. The artist’s work expresses pleasure and pain, the stormy instability of being human and the superhuman exaltation of the sacred. (...) At times, his art reminds us of Bosch, featuring a motley mix of horror and beauty that invites the viewer to ponder his own complex interior life when faced with the artist’s honest expression of his own. The whole gamut of human contradiction is there in Salazar’s paintings: the exquisite and the strange, the tender and the horrifying, the simple and the inextricable, the biotic (life) and the thanatic (death), the erotic and the phobic—in short, the richness carried inside—whether we welcome it or reject it—by all human beings.” This major event has been possible by the invaluable support of PROSEGUR, TRAPICHE Argentina and INTIMODA. The exhibition may be viewed through December 2, from Monday through Saturday, 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. No entry fee.
